It is an occupational condition, not a personality trait
The World Health Organization defines burn-out in ICD-11 as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. The wording matters: the cause is the workplace, and the failure is in managing it.
That framing rules out the industry's favourite explanation, which is that some people are just not built for the pace.
Why this industry is a good host for it
Scope is sold before it is understood, so the gap gets covered with unpaid hours at the bottom of the chain.
Output is identity. When your taste is the product, a rejected idea does not feel like a rejected file.
Recovery is never scheduled. The end of a brutal project is the start of the next one, and the exhaustion carries forward compounded.
What actually helps, in order of effect
Fix the estimate. Most overwork is a pricing error wearing a work-ethic costume.
Cap revision rounds contractually so the end of a project is a defined event.
Schedule the gap. One clear week after a big delivery is cheaper than replacing the person in six months.
Separate the note from the person in reviews. 'This shot does not read' and 'this is weak work' cost the same to say and land completely differently.
