The short answer
Most professional motion design work in North America falls between $2,000 and $60,000 per project. A 15-second 2D explainer sits near the bottom of that band; a directed CGI product film with simulation work sits near the top.
What actually drives the price
Shot count, not duration. Ten one-second cuts cost more than one ten-second shot.
Render complexity. Glass, liquid, fabric and volumetrics multiply both machine time and artist time.
Usage rights. Paid media and broadcast usage are priced separately from organic social.
Revision depth. Two rounds is standard; open-ended feedback loops are the single biggest cost driver.
Day rates versus project rates
Senior freelance motion designers in the US market quote roughly $650–$1,200 per day. Project pricing is usually better for both sides because it prices the outcome instead of the hours.
How to reduce cost without losing quality
Lock the script and boards before animation starts. Reuse a single 3D asset across the whole campaign. Deliver one master and derive crops from it rather than commissioning separate edits.
